at Studio Z, San Francisco

In the center of a darkened room, a white motorized toy bird with a small microphone affixed to its keel appears to hover at eye level as it tirelessly flaps its wings. Its solitary shadow is cast onto the floor by a spotlight overhead. Four channels of sound comprised of breathing, wind howls, acoustic feedback, laughter, cries, street noises, and the flapping of bird's wings emanate from speakers sitting at ear level in each of the four corners of the room. As visitors speak within the space their voices are echoed between each speaker in ten second delays. Over time, the echoes produced by the microphone and speakers create a whirlwind of reverberant noises and voices that encircle the room until they fade slowly into ghostly whispers.
