Every few minutes, sounds that were recorded on and around the Tokyo subways begin to project from three pre-existing non-functional vent shafts in the ceiling of the gallery. As the sounds rise in volume, lights inside of the vents also begin illuminate in accordance, casting patterned shadows across the otherwise dark walls of the gallery. This installation was part of the second half of the exhibition “Listening: Living Art from San Francisco and Japan” at The LAB in San Francisco from December 2006 - January 2007. The first half occured in and around Tokyo and at Green Culture Zone, Showa Kinen Park during July - August 2006. |
